Fluorinated Gas Reduction Program
Landing page describing the Fluorinated Gas (F-Gas) Reduction Program
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) Fluorinated Gas Reduction Program is a competitive grant program prioritizing projects demonstrating significant greenhouse gas reductions, replicability, and benefits to areas of environmental justice concern. It is funded by US EPA's Climate Pollution Reduction Grants and supports the adoption of ultra-low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants in the industrial and commercial food refrigeration sectors in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
IEPA aims to mitigate emissions from high-global-warming potential refrigerants by allocating $19,500,000 to fund projects that facilitate the adoption of lower-carbon alternatives and reduce emissions from fluorinated gases (F-gases).
Grant awards will fund the incremental costs associated with replacing high GWP refrigerant systems with natural ultra-low (<10) GWP alternatives PLUS an additional incentive. Extracted refrigerants must be destroyed. New construction of ultra-low GWP systems is also eligible. See the IEPA F-gas Reduction Program page for further details, including examples of existing systems to be replaced and example proposed replacements.
Services provided by the Clean Industry Concierge include:
