About
Marcello Pibiri serves as Senior Research Engineer II at the Energy Resources Center (ERC), an interdisciplinary public service, research, and special projects organization based in the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois Chicago that works to advance energy sustainability and improve the environment. Marcello is the Program Manager of the Biomethane Emissions Reduction, Capture, and Utilization in High-Value End Uses Program, providing technical and educational assistance to the agricultural and waste sectors in Illinois to reduce methane emissions. He is also the Program Manager of the Pollution Prevention (P2) Technical Assistance Program, providing on-site technical assistance and education to industrial plants, and the Technical Education and Analysis for Community Hauling and Anaerobic Digesters (TEACH AD) Program, which helps Water Resource Recovery Facilities explore increased adoption of anaerobic digestion and renewable biogas technologies through education and technical assistance. Marcello is the Principal Investigator for Project #5187, funded by the Water Research Foundation, titled Beyond Net Zero: Advancing Interdependencies between Utility Greenhouse Gas Emission Reductions and Water-Energy-Food Nexus. As a member of the ERC’s Energy Efficiency team, Marcello supports several technical, energy, and environmental initiatives, conducting research and evaluating energy savings opportunities for clients. Prior to joining the Energy Resources Center, Marcello worked for several years in project management of electrical and technological installations. Marcello holds a Master’s Degree in Energy Engineering from the University of Illinois Chicago and a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Università degli Studi dell'Aquila in Italy.
